Georgia Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame Spotlight - Patricia Elaine Liddell
United States Army Master Sergeant (MSG) (Ret) Patricia Elaine Liddell from Columbus, Georgia was inducted into the Georgia Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame (GMVHOF) Class of 2017 for her exemplary life of stoic sacrifice and selfless service to others and our nation. After a distinguished Army career in the medical field of almost 27 years and stationed throughout the U.S., Germany, and Korea, MSG Liddell retired from active duty in 2004.
On Saturday, November 2, 2002, MSG Liddell experienced an event that almost took her life as she, as always, was providing much needed medical assistance to others. While driving north on I-185 after leaving work at Fort Benning’s Martin Army Hospital, her car was rear-ended by a young soldier’s wife.
After pulling off on the shoulder of the highway and looking in her rear-view mirror, she could see that the young lady’s head was on the steering wheel and her baby in the back seat was crying. Upon rushing to their aide, she discovered that the young pregnant mother was in labor. When MSG Liddell returned to her car to retrieve her cell phone to call 911, another car struck her. Three days later she woke up from a coma and was soon told that she would never walk again due to a broken neck, fractured hip, and shattered leg.
After more than a year of hard work and painful physical therapy, she did walk again and soon retired from the Army. Not only did she walk again but, since that life-altering event, she totally has dedicated herself, her time, and her limited resources to assisting veterans, their spouses, their widows, and their families with their VA claims. Her tireless dedication to this noble cause has resulted in hundreds of success stories for veterans as she has worked thousands of hours without pay, driven thousands of miles without compensation, and attended hundreds of veterans’ funerals out of deep and abiding respect.
Master Sergeant Patricia Elaine Liddell’s record of excellence both in defense of our nation and in loving service to mankind is the epitome of a stoic, selfless servant and certainly worthy of recognition, praise, and entry into the GMVHOF.
